There is a misconception that deaf people live in a world of silence. This isnt entirely true. think Timpani and percussion. Hearing is simply a specialized form of touch and sound is simply vibrating air which the ear picks up and converts to electrical signals which are then interpreted by the brain.  Stand under a railway bridge and decide if you feel the train before you "hear" it. (evelyn glennie)
